Beethoven Was African was an album and social media campaign that revived the old theory that Ludwig van Beethoven was of African descent. The new claim focused more heavily on the potential cultural clues in the composer’s music, rather than on his appearance. The Blasius Hoefel portrait from 1814 was used as reference for the illustration.
